Yes, as predicted things have gone to pot around here lately. What can I say; at least I’m not taking a whole month off like that Satanist sadist Jason Yungbluth. And I am doing stuff. Project X has slowed down, but I’m trying to make a little progress every day at least so as to avoid losing my momentum entirely.
Meanwhile, the trip to New York is on. I have received one or two suggestions; including a brewpub and, from two people, the advice to spend time at the New York Public Library. I suppose I can manage that. I think I will also plan on finding time to stop by the tomb of Ulysses Grant—yes that’s right the original “Grant’s Tomb”—to check that off my list. Pity that the other New York presidential gravesites are either way out on Long Island or else up around Albany.
Meanwhile, a few items of note elsewhere on the web. First, three maps:
- Fantasy transit map of San Francisco
- “The United States according to craigslist”
- And this awesome, interactive map of broadband in the United States. Go check out where you live!
And to round things out, this article on a “Slow-Books Manifesto.” Which I’ve yet to do more than scan; I’m not sure how much I agree with most of the details but I just feel like the spirit of this concept is somehow worth endorsing.

“At least I’m not taking a whole month off like that Satanist sadist Jason Yungbluth.”
The word you are looking for is “Stalinist”. Yeesh.
Thank you sir. Let the record stand corrected!
