Midway links 7/1/11

2011 July 1

Deep breath, and we begin the second half of 2011. Let’s run down some links? First off, look at these stamps which are finally available for purchase!

coolo stamps

I must have them!!

Next, apparently another of those crazy, idle speculations about the future has come to pass while no one was looking: a synthetic pop-music artist. Frankly, I can’t say I’m really shocked. Is anyone? To be honest, not only has most of the technology for this, specifically, been there for a while… but if you get right down to it this is really just an incremental advance from the many pop musicians who have, in a lot of ways, been manufactured artificial personalities for some while. I won’t name names but I think you can see my point.

Ah, this link is great: The Atlantic takes a look at packaged cookie/biscuit designs. Brilliant!

Here’s another article about that new magic camera that kind of frightens me a little.

Oh, and speaking of surprising advances in gadgets, go take a look at this photo. Notice anything? We have a suited person speaking to journalists, and surrounded by said journalists’ arms reaching in with some sort of devices. Except, I see only one object recognizable as a traditional microphone. Everyone else seems to be pointing a cell phone or remote control at the guy. When did this happen? Why wasn’t I notified??

Here are some cool product designs. Nothing world-changing, but still pretty nifty.

Finally, I’ve mentioned novel 404 error pages a time or two, before; here’s a cute one I stumbled upon recently.

I think that’s enough for now. Have a great Independence Day weekend.

You’ve seen concert footage of Hatsune Miku, haven’t you? They’re not trying to hide that she’s CG and it doesn’t look like they’re fully hitting 360 degrees yet, but still…
